Our Story

I’m Steve Bainbridge and I’m an Optometrist at Bainbridge Bespoke Opticians.

My wife Amy is a dispensing optician and we are both the directors of the company. We work alongside a small team of senior optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical assistants to consistently deliver the highest level of service.

We have been a family run business since inception in 1984 when my father, Peter Bainbridge, opened his first practice in Birmingham. The business eventually expanded to 8 practices across the Midlands. Amy and I purchased the Redditch and Harborne practices in 2016 and 2018 respectively, at the same time as having our two children, Freya and Sebastion.

Serving the local community for over 40 years

On September 1st 2025, we moved our Redditch practice into the community after 35 amazing years in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre. You can find our Harborne practice at the heart of the Harborne high street, a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Birmingham City Centre.

We don’t think we are the same as most high street opticians. We endeavour to avoid the conveyor belt style ‘efficiencies’ and make your visit memorable for all the right reasons. We have truly unique frames in a wide range of high quality materials hand selected from across the globe. Whether you want something bright and beautiful or classy and understated, we’ll find you the perfect specs to suit your individual style.
